The potential of a 203 rangebox up with the 2.62:1 D300 factory low range is beyond 4:1 I'm sure when compared to the drop-in gear sets for the D300. I believe the 203/205 doublers have a max 6:1 low range and the 205's factory low range in itself is a meager 1.96:1.Take the idler gear out and look at the bearings, then clean the oil passages in the idler shaft. I set the preload in a press around .006, with the nut tight and the bearings dry it should be the same. Found the problem. It had spit the shims in the idler gear. Also the oil passage in the shaft was plugged.
